The Nokia N73 is a member of the excellent Nokia Nseries range of mobile phones and is a high end 3G device with camera and MP3 player.
Although the phone looks fairly conventional compared to some of the other Nseries phones the N73 has some very advanced features. The most striking feature is the large screen which makes the N73 stand out from other similar devices. Nokia produce the N73 in silver grey, deep plum, metallic red and frost white and from the pictures we have seen all the colours look great. Our test model was a very stylish silver grey colour. The N73 weighs 116 grams and measures 110 x 49 x 19mm and has a large 2.4 inch 262k colour TFT screen with 240 x 320 pixels resolution. One impressive feature is the light detecting screen which works to save battery and provide optimal viewing conditions by altering the brightness of the screen depending on the conditions.
The Nokia N73 is a quad band phone so it will work in most countries. It includes 42 Mb of internal memory with a MiniSD card slot to expand the memory up to 1Gb.
A high quality 3.2 mega pixel digital camera with 20x digital zoom and impressive auto focus feature is the best feature on the N73. The built in flash has red eye reduction features and allows you to take great photos even in poor light conditions. Nokia have added a dedicated camera key so that you can access the camera quickly if you spot a photo opportunity. A number of different modes allow you to take artistic photos using effects like sepia and black and white or even night photos. In the user friendly automatic mode you simply point the camera and click and the photo will be adjusted automatically.
Being a 3G phone the N73 includes a VGA camera with digital zoom so you can conduct face to face video calls with other 3G users.
Photos are stored in the memory and can be transferred using the built in Bluetooth or USB connections. The phone uses the Nokia Xpress printing software to transfer photos to a compatible printer so you can print without the use of a PC. Nokia have included a version of Adobe Photoshop so you can edit and touch up your photos using this powerful software.
A useful video mode allows you to download, stream and capture new videos with ease. The video camera has a 4x zoom and includes a very effective automatic image stabilisation feature to make your movies look professional and shake free. Approximately 1.5 hours of footage can be stored on the internal memory card at 15 frames per second including stereo sound.
As well as 3G, Bluetooth and USB 2.0 the N73 has an infra red connection and fast internet access thanks to an advanced XHTML browser. The phone runs on the popular Symbian S60 operating system and includes a Nokia PC Suite for managing and synchronising the phone with your PC.
The Nokia N73 also includes a fully featured MP3 player supporting AAC and WMA tracks as well as standard MP3 files. A nice graphic equaliser function and integrated FM radio with visual radio are excellent features. The radio uses RDS to display the radio station, current song and news headlines or sporting highlights on the screen as you listen. A high quality stereo headset is included when you buy the phone as is a USB cable to transfer songs from your PC
As you would expect from a smartphone the Nokia N73 includes a number of personal organiser features such as calendar, notes and a full address book. A handsfree speaker phone and conference calling facility with push to talk button are becoming standard on high end phones and the N73 includes these as well.
Email, SMS and MMS messages can be sent from the N73 which supports SMTP, IMAP and POP3 email protocols. The rich email client allows large attachments to be sent with ease.
